Embarking on this module, I would get fascinated by the diversity of concepts learnt, yet an inextinguishable question would cross my mind – how can I apply the information I learnt into my daily life? This field trip aptly answered my question, via a first-hand, sensory learning experience, allowing me to better appreciate the wildlife around me.
Arriving at the quiet Pulau Semakau in the wee hours, I had not expected to see much. However, I was wrong — what caught my eyes was the abundance of organisms that were new, yet exciting to me. Alongside our friendly nature guide, we took in interesting facts, and applied our previously-acquired understanding of the various animals. Additionally, we had the opportunity to understand how these animals interact within their habitat, coupled with the threats surrounding the delicate balance of this ecosystem. While finding out measures taken to mitigate these effects, we learnt how we could play a part too.

After this trip, what struck me was the details in our observations, which I may brush past in daily life. I realised that the beauty of nature can only be fully appreciated when we stop to observe the smallest details, and gain revelations stemming from our curiosity.
Moreover, the assignment was a good thinking process for me to reflect on this unique experience, as well as to digest and assimilate the knowledge gained, challenging me to write in an informative yet easy-to-understand manner.
This experience was very meaningful and thank you for this opportunity! š
